Terms of Service
Last updated: July 5, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Taverna Discord bot, the tavernadm.com website, and any related services (collectively, the "Service"), operated by Scalar Studio("we", "us", "our").
By adding the bot to a server, playing in a channel where it is active, signing in on the website, or purchasing a subscription, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility & age
- You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required by Discord in your country, if higher) to use the Service, and you must have a Discord account in good standing.
- You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live) to purchase a subscription. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must make the purchase and will be the contracting party for that subscription.
- Taverna generates fantasy adventure content that may include descriptions of combat, peril, and dark themes. It is not suitable for children under 13.
2. The Service & AI-generated content
Taverna is an AI-powered tabletop roleplaying experience delivered through Discord. The game narration, images, character portraits, non-player characters, items, and voice audio produced by the Service are generated by artificial intelligence. By using the Service you acknowledge that you are interacting with an AI system, not a human game master.
AI-generated content is unpredictable by nature. Despite the safeguards we apply, it may occasionally be inaccurate, inconsistent, or content you find objectionable. It is provided for entertainment purposes only and does not represent our views. You can report problematic content to us at any time via /feedback or by email, and we may remove or regenerate content at our discretion.
3. Discord
The Service runs on Discord. Your use of Discord — including while playing Taverna — remains subject to Discord's own Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, and you agree to comply with them. Taverna is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Discord Inc.
4. Subscriptions, billing & renewal
- Paid plans (including group bundles) are billed in advance on a recurring monthly or annual basis through our payment processor. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price for your plan until you cancel.
- The price, billing frequency, and renewal terms are shown at checkout before you pay, and you must affirmatively accept them to subscribe.
- You can cancel online at any time from your dashboard (Manage billing → cancel), with no fees or obstacles. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep your plan benefits until then.
- If we run free trials or promotional pricing, we will tell you before the trial converts to a paid subscription and what it will cost.
- Upgrades between plans take effect immediately and are prorated; downgrades take effect at the next renewal.
- If a renewal payment fails, we may retry it and will downgrade the account to the free tier if payment cannot be collected.
5. Cancellation rights & refunds
UK / EU consumers: you normally have a 14-day right to withdraw from a distance contract. Because your subscription starts immediately, at checkout you consent to immediate supply of the digital service. If you withdraw within 14 days, we will refund the amount paid minus a proportionate charge for the period the Service was available to you. Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 for digital content to be of satisfactory quality.
Beyond statutory rights, subscription payments are non-refundable, but if something has gone wrong, contact us at [email protected] — we review refund requests in good faith.
6. Price changes
We may change plan prices. If we do, we will give you at least 30 days' notice(by email or Discord), and the new price applies only from your next renewal. If you don't accept the change, cancel before the renewal and you will not be charged the new price.
7. Group plans & seats
- Group bundles include a number of seats. The purchaser (the "host") is our customer for the whole bundle and may assign and revoke seats (via
/seatsin Discord or the website dashboard). - Each seat holder must have their own Discord account and accepts these Terms individually by using the Service.
- If the host cancels or the bundle lapses, seat holders lose paid benefits at the end of the billing period and revert to the free tier. Their characters, worlds, and game data are not deleted, but features beyond the free tier become unavailable.
- Seats are for members of your party — they may not be resold or offered commercially.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service to create, request, or attempt to elicit content that is illegal, that sexualises minors, or that infringes another's rights;
- attempt to exploit, manipulate, or abuse the AI systems (prompt injection, jailbreaking) to bypass safety measures;
- harass, threaten, or harm other users;
- use automated scripts or tools to interact with the Service beyond the intended Discord interface, or to circumvent usage limits or credit systems;
- reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code or system prompts of the Service;
- resell or commercially exploit the Service without our written permission; or
- violate Discord's Terms of Service or Community Guidelines while using Taverna.
We may suspend or terminate access for violations, including immediately and without refund for serious violations.
9. Your content
You retain ownership of the content you create and submit through the Service — your prompts, character names, backstories, and in-game actions ("Your Content"). You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, process, display, and transmit Your Content as necessary to operate, secure, and improve the Service, including sending it to our AI providers to generate game content.
Taverna is a shared game. Other players in your channel and world will see Your Content — your actions, characters, and the story generated from them — and the AI will weave it into a story shared by the whole party. Do not submit content you are not comfortable sharing with your party.
You warrant that Your Content does not infringe any third party's rights or violate any law, and you agree to indemnify us against claims arising from Your Content, to the extent permitted by the law where you live.
10. AI outputs
To the extent we hold any rights in the AI-generated narration, images, and audio produced in your game sessions ("Outputs"), we assign them to you. You may use your Outputs for any lawful purpose, including sharing them. However, you acknowledge that:
- purely AI-generated works may not be protectable by copyright in your jurisdiction;
- Outputs are not guaranteed to be unique — similar prompts can produce similar Outputs for other users; and
- we make no warranty that Outputs do not infringe third-party rights. You are responsible for your own use of Outputs outside the Service.
11. Intellectual property
The Service — its software, design, AI systems, prompts, and the Taverna brand — is owned by Scalar Studio. Nothing in these Terms grants you rights to it beyond what is needed to use the Service.
Taverna's game mechanics are compatible with the fifth edition of the world's most famous tabletop roleplaying game and incorporate material from the System Reference Document 5.1 ("SRD 5.1") by Wizards of the Coast LLC, available at dndbeyond.com/srd, licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC-BY-4.0). Taverna is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed, sponsored, or approved by Wizards of the Coast. "Dungeons & Dragons" and "D&D" are trademarks of Wizards of the Coast LLC.
12. Service changes, availability & game data
We are a small studio actively developing the Service. Features may change, and the Service may occasionally be interrupted. We work hard to preserve your worlds, characters, and progress, but we cannot guarantee game data will be preserved indefinitely, and game data has no monetary value.
13. Disclaimers
Except as expressly stated in these Terms and except for rights you have under consumer law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that AI-generated content will be accurate, appropriate, or consistent.
14. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be excluded or limited by law, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, enjoyment, or profits; and our total liability arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose (or £50 if you have paid nothing).
15. Disputes
If you live in the United States: you and Scalar Studio agree to resolve disputes by binding individual arbitration rather than in court, and you waive any right to participate in a class action. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement within 30 days of first accepting these Terms by emailing [email protected]. Small claims court remains available to both of us.
If you live elsewhere: these Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and disputes may be brought in the courts of England and Wales — except that if you are a consumer in the UK or EU, you also benefit from any mandatory consumer protections of, and may bring proceedings in, the country where you live.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes we will give reasonable advance notice via the website, Discord, or email. If you continue using the Service after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms; if you don't agree, cancel and stop using the Service before the change takes effect.
